How did your understanding of what original art is evolve or change during this unit?
At the beginning of this unit, I thought that original art was completely creating a new idea and using it to make something nobody had thought of. However, during and throughout this unit, I learned that no art is truly 100% original because all art builds off of other art. Artists can take an idea or a piece of somebody else's work and use it to create something original.
I didn't realize that stealing other artist's ideas was okay, but I learned that that's the only way people can make new things. This is why at the beginning of this unit, I was a little tentative because when I was pinning ideas and starting to work, I felt like I was copying an idea and it didn't feel right. However, by the end of this unit, I was able to understand that I used those other people's ideas and used them as inspiration and a jumping off block for my own work.
How did you steal from your subject when making your artwork?
For my final project, I made a Zombie Apocalypse stop motion video with a group of people. Of course, with none of us have done this before it turned out to be a fun and interesting experience. Some people found it hard to see the connection to our subject in our video but we connected our art to science and we got the idea to make a stop motion from Ms. Purtee and Pinterest.
For example, on my Pinterest board, https://www.pinterest.com/midori1906/artist-steal-final-project/ , my group found lots of interesting stop motion videos and that's where we got the idea for ours. We saw how people used different materials like clay, construction paper, or even legos to create art. However, for our project, we had to steal from another subject. We chose to relate our art to science, and steal from this subject. We thought that making a stop motion video about a zombie apocalyspe is a form of art, yet it is also portraying a message about how advanced our science fields today our advancing. We incorporated art in the detailed zombie makeup and facepaint and the fact that over 1000 pictures were put together to make our video is already art as well.
Our video is stealing from another subject because during the creation of our video, we had to do a little research on the background of real zombie apocalypses and how they could possibly happen in our future. We looked up several different pictures as a guideline for how we wanted to do our zombie makeup. Our video has a scientific message because it is showing in an artistic way that the carelessness of scientists or how we abuse our technology could cause and epidemic like this to occur one day.

Artwork
This unit, I think I have improved more as an artist as you can see in my Character Remix and 2 in 1 drawings. I think something I did really well on my drawing or Ariel was taking her character and putting more of a punk rock twist on her. I think I did a really good job with the weight of the contour lines because the thick, dark glasses contrast nicely with the soft value of her hair. the most difficult part was the nose ring, and I almost ended up not including it, but when done correctly, it ended up being a good final touch.
For my other piece of art, 2 in 1, I think I did better than I expected. I knew going into it that with my idea of drawing a jellyfish in a jar would be interesting because the main piece of art is confined in a certain area. However, I think I did really good with piece. I tried especially hard to accentuate each string of the jellyfish by having a darker value towards the top, and slowly lightening each strand until the bottom of the jar. My favorite thing about this was trying to create the illusion that the jellyfish is actually inside the jar and I tried doing this by erasing small sections and shading to create the look of a glare on the jar like the picture on the right.
